Busy Bees Learning Job Skills

Do you remember your first job?

All of us, whether we are bankers, firefighters, teachers, business owners, or retail clerks had a first job, that was maybe a bit different from the work we do now.

In that first job, you learn a lot of essential skills. Skills that can be broken into two types – hard skills and soft skills.

As a social enterprise, we train our employees (students in our recovery program) to have a certain set of hard skills that are related to beekeeping, entrepreneurship, product development, marketing and much more. These are the day-in, day-out inner workings of BeeLoved Trading that are requisite with the job. Our students learn the craft of beekeeping - from ensuring the hives are functioning well and healthy, to the nuances of harvesting. There is a care and process that requires knowledge and All of these skills they are learning. They also help produce and sell other bee-related products!

Our students aren’t only learning how to care for bees and produce products. They need soft skills like patience, diligence, honesty and focusing on the task at hand. These soft skills are the foundation of what we teach our employees. These are manifested by showing up on time, doing a good job, making sure to listen to instructions and trying tasks again when they prove difficult the first time.
